Virginia Educators Recognized for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching: Finalists Announced for 2024 Presidential Award

Lisa Coons, the Superintendent of Public Instruction in Virginia, expressed pride in recognizing and honoring three educators from the commonwealth who have been named finalists for the 2024 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. Among them is Laurie Sullivan, a Project Discovery science/STEM teacher at Arlington’s Barrett Elementary School.

The award is considered the top honor for K-12 teachers working in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. Alongside Sullivan, two other educators from Virginia were also selected as finalists – one from Goochland County and the other from Martinsville. These finalists were chosen by review committees organized by the Virginia Department of Education.

The national selection committee will now review their applications to determine who will win the prestigious award. The winners of the 2024 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching will be announced by the White House. The recognition celebrates the contributions and achievements of educators in STEM fields.
