Vanderbilt University Establishes New College of Connected Computing to Advance Breakthroughs in Computer Science and AI Education

Vanderbilt University has announced the establishment of a new college focused on computer science, artificial intelligence (AI), data science, and related fields. The College of Connected Computing aims to collaborate with all of Vanderbilt’s schools and colleges to advance breakthrough discoveries and enhance computing education through a “computing for all” approach.

Dr. Raver highlighted how the new college will allow Vanderbilt to expand on its existing programs and provide students with exceptional educational opportunities. She noted that the growing global interest in AI aligns well with Vanderbilt’s expertise in the field. Dr. Roy expressed that the establishment of the College of Connected Computing is significant for both the School of Engineering and the entire university, as computing is becoming increasingly intertwined with all disciplines. He believes that the future of education, research, and thinking will be greatly influenced by the knowledge and power of computing.

The interdisciplinary college will be overseen by a new dean, who will report to Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. C. Cybele Raver and School of Engineering Dean Dr. Krishnendu “Krish” Roy. The search for a dean is set to begin in late August
