Thyroiditis is a prevalent thyroid disease with symptoms such as weight fluctuations, loss of appetite, dry skin, hair loss, and decreased cognitive function. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Truc from Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City explains that thyroiditis can affect hormone production, leading to overproduction or underproduction of thyroid hormones.
The disease can occur in anyone but is more common in postpartum women, especially those aged 30-50. Thyroiditis has different phases with varying symptoms. Transient hyperthyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland becomes inflamed and releases too much hormone, leading to symptoms like rapid heart rate, weight loss, and irritability.
The normal phase of thyroiditis occurs when hormone levels return to normal after hyperthyroidism, and euthyroidism may follow where the thyroid gland returns to a recovery state with no symptoms. Hypothyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland is depleted of hormones, leading to symptoms like fatigue, weight gain, and muscle weakness.
Thyroiditis has different forms such as acute thyroiditis, subacute thyroiditis
