Grapefruit, a citrus fruit, is well-known for its refreshing taste and high water content. However, recent studies have shown that it also contains antioxidants, lycopene, and vitamin C, which can reduce the risk of various types of cancer such as lung, breast, stomach, and prostate cancer. Additionally, grapefruit is rich in fiber, protein, carbohydrates, and vitamin C.

A 2021 study by Roseman University of Health Sciences in the USA found that a compound in grapefruit juice called furanocoumarin bergamottin can inhibit the growth of prostate cancer cells. This compound reduces prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels and activates apoptosis in prostate cancer cells, slowing down disease progression. Apoptosis is the process of programmed cell death in the body.

A review by Shanghai Jiaotong University in China, based on 21 studies, showed that consuming citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, tangerines, and grapefruits can reduce the risk of various cancers. Citrus fruits are also rich in fiber
