Remembering the Generosity of Jacksonville’s Beloved Chef: Alvin Harvey”.

Jacksonville Chef Alvin Harvey, who was known for his kindness and generosity, has passed away at the age of 72. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 27 at Julington Baptist Church on Snyder Street, just north of Bartram Springs.

In November 2018, Harvey was preparing to give away 500 free Thanksgiving turkeys and all the fixings in the Brentwood neighborhood. His generosity was well-known in the community, and he was loved for his giving spirit. He once said, “If I reach down to pull you up I want to feel your pain because we are all just one paycheck away from being homeless.”

Harvey’s impact extended beyond Jacksonville as in 2005 he traveled to Louisiana with a group to feed the needy in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Chef Harvey believed in helping others and often spoke about the importance of empathy and understanding. His memory will live on through the lives he touched and the meals he served to those in need.

Harvey is survived by his wife Nancy, two daughters, and two sons. The passing of Chef Alvin Harvey is a loss to the community as he leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity that will be remembered for years to come.
