Protecting Patient Care During a Cyberattack: HHS, ASPR, and CMS Release Resource Guide for Healthcare Providers Impacted by Change Healthcare Attack”.

In the wake of the recent Change Healthcare cyberattack, the Departments of Health and Human Services (HHS), Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR), and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) have released a national resource guide to assist hospitals and providers impacted by the incident. The guide aims to provide support to healthcare providers who continue to face disruptions, as many are struggling to get answers from healthcare plans regarding payments and needed flexibilities during the unavailability of the Change Healthcare platform.

In a letter introducing the guide, HHS, ASPR, and CMS emphasize the challenges providers are experiencing as a result of the cyberattack and urge hospitals and health systems to review the voluntary cybersecurity performance goals that were released earlier in the year. They encourage providers to stay informed and take necessary precautions to protect against cyber threats in the future.

For healthcare organizations seeking further assistance or information on this matter, Molly Smith, AHA group vice president of policy, can be contacted at mollysmith@aha.org. It is crucial for healthcare organizations to remain vigilant in their efforts to mitigate cybersecurity risks and ensure patient care continuity.
