New Addition to Diamondbacks Starting Rotation: Montgomery Brings Valuable Experience and Postseason Success

The Arizona Diamondbacks have added depth to their starting rotation by signing left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery to a one-year contract. The deal is worth up to $25 million and includes a vesting option for 2025. Montgomery, a seven-year veteran, brings valuable experience to the Diamondbacks’ pitching staff with a career 3.68 ERA and a 38-34 record over 141 appearances.

Last season, Montgomery spent time with both the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers. In his first 21 starts with the Cardinals, he posted a 6-9 record with a 3.42 ERA. After being traded to the Rangers in July, he went 4-2 with a 2.79 ERA over his final 11 starts. Montgomery was instrumental in helping the Rangers secure their first World Series title, going 3-1 in the postseason.

With Montgomery joining a strong rotation that features pitchers like Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, Tommy Henry, Brandon Pfaadt, and Ryne Nelson, the Diamondbacks open their season against the Colorado Rockies in Phoenix on Thursday.
