Midco Sports Announces Layoffs of Several Employees, Including Popular TV Personalities

Midco Sports, a media entity that broadcasts athletics events for the University of North Dakota, South Dakota State, and University of South Dakota, has recently announced layoffs affecting several employees, including well-known TV personalities. The company’s vice president of corporate communications, Paige Pearson Meyer, revealed that budget cuts were the reason for the moves.

In response to these cuts, Midco Sports plans to focus on enhancing streamed content on its digital platform, Midco Sports Plus. As a result, high school sports and some original programming will no longer be produced or broadcast on its linear channels Midco Sports and Midco Sports Two. This shift has led to the difficult decision to reduce the number of full-time team members.

Despite these layoffs, Midco Sports remains committed to its partnerships with universities and holds contracts to air various athletic events. Bill Chaves, the athletic director at UND, assured that the changes will not affect their existing contracts with the company. Notable personalities like Brian Shawn, Jody Norstedt, and David Brown were among those impacted by the recent restructuring but have expressed confidence in their ongoing partnerships with Midco Sports.

Some employees like Jay Elsen and Taylor Budge were retained in respective locations to continue their roles in delivering content through streaming services and collaborating with schools’ athletic departments.
