Helsinki Stock Exchange Seeing Increased Diversity Among CEOs, but Still a Long Way from Gender Equality

In 2015, Juha was the most common name among CEOs of listed companies in Helsinki, but now women are in the majority, according to recent calculations. Kaisa Hernberg, a responsibility consultant, found that there are currently ten women as managing directors of listed companies, compared to only five Juhas. There are also five Mikkos as managing directors, and three each of Artoja, Esoja, Mikoja, Petrja, Pekoja, and Timoja.

Despite this progress towards greater diversity at the Helsinki Stock Exchange, Hernberg believes that there is still much work to be done in achieving gender equality among CEOs. The current share of women CEOs in listed companies is slightly over seven percent.

In contrast to the increase in female CEOs seen in recent years at the Helsinki Stock Exchange, data collected by the Union of Women’s Affairs in 2015 showed that more listed companies were led by men named Juha than women. However, a review by the Central Chamber of Commerce suggests that the number of female CEOs may have decreased since then.
