From Youth to the World Stage: Aregawi’s Journey in Track and Field

Aregawi’s 2018 successes marked a breakthrough in his athletic career and set the stage for his future accomplishments. He won the 3000m gold at the African Youth Games, secured silver at the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games, and earned the 10,000m bronze at the World U20 championship.

The following year, Aregawi’s confidence received a boost when he won the Great Ethiopian 10km run, coming close to breaking the course record. This victory served as a stepping stone for him as he transitioned into competing at the senior level, where he faced tougher competition and greater challenges.

Despite his achievements, Aregawi has faced some disappointments. In Tokyo, he narrowly missed out on winning a medal with a fourth-place finish. He also fell short of securing his first World Championship medals in Oregon and Budapest, coming close but ultimately not reaching the podium.

In 2021, Aregawi broke the 5km world record on the road, marking a significant milestone in his career. Additionally, a silver medal at Bathurst further solidified his aspirations of becoming one of the top athletes in his field.

Looking back on his accomplishments, Aregawi expressed gratitude for the valuable experiences gained from his races. He also expressed pride in multiple gold and bronze medals earned at National Cross Country events and silver medal at 2023 World Cross Championships despite facing challenges and tough competition along way
