Climate Change: A Health Crisis That Demands Action from All of Us – Expert Insights from Environmental Advocate Richard J. Jackson

Richard J. Jackson, a renowned environmental advocate and public health expert, will be the keynote speaker at an event hosted by the Department of Population and Public Health Sciences. The event, titled “Climate Change is Among the Greatest Challenges Facing Humanity: The Responses Must Benefit All People and the Natural World,” will explore the impact of a warming planet on modern life.

The event will delve into how climate change is affecting human health and well-being, including increased heat waves, febrile oceans, storm violence, lost insurance, wildfires, smoke-filled air, asocial behavior, and an epidemic of loneliness. Jackson will discuss the underlying forces that can lead to improved health and potentially happiness through physical environmental changes.

Jackson has an impressive background in public health and environmental advocacy. He is Professor emeritus at the Fielding School of Public Health at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and has served as State Health Officer for the California Health Department and as Director of the CDC’s National Center for Environmental Health. He has received numerous awards for his contributions to public health and environmental advocacy and has authored several books on urban sprawl and designing healthy communities.
