Appointment of Javier Milei’s Secretary of Mining: Luis Lucero: Expert in Natural Resources Law and Project Financing

Javier Milei, the President of Argentina, has appointed Luis Lucero as the new Secretary of Mining, according to a statement from the Ministry of Economy. Lucero is a lawyer specializing in the mining industry, natural resources law, project financing, corporate matters, and complex arbitrations and litigation. He will be taking over the position previously held by Flavia Royón.

Lucero graduated from the University of Buenos Aires with a Postgraduate Degree in Business Law from the Universidad Argentina de la Empresa. He also completed various specialization courses and seminars at institutions such as the University of Dundee, Harvard Law School, Columbia Business School, the University of Cambridge, and University College London (UCL). Prior to his appointment, Lucero worked at several prominent legal firms in Argentina and Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman in the United States.

The Mining Secretariat is led by Lucero and is responsible for proposing, executing and monitoring Argentina’s mining policy. The Secretariat works closely with provinces, municipalities, investors and companies to coordinate international cooperation and maximize Argentina’s geological-mining potential. Last year, Argentina exported $4 billion worth of minerals with projections to reach $20-25 billion by 2030 particularly with the development of copper projects and country’s potential to become a major lithium producer.
