American Red Cross Receives $3,000 Grant to Support Blood Saves Lives Fighting Cancer Initiative

The American Red Cross has received a $3,000 grant from the Memorial Health Foundation to support its Blood Saves Lives Fighting Cancer initiative. Sharon Kesselring, executive director of the American Red Cross of the Ohio River Valley, expressed her excitement for the partnership with the Health System.

The foundation’s board of trustees awarded the grant due to the important role that the American Red Cross plays in patient care within the Health System and in the region. The grant will help with collecting and processing blood products for those in need in the area.

Julie Dye and Jill Deming presented the grant on behalf of the foundation at Memorial Health System’s first blood drive of 2024. It is worth noting that while American Red Cross collects blood throughout the entire area, it processes and makes available for patients fighting cancer when they need it. Blood transfusions can be crucial in cancer treatment process, providing relief from symptoms of chemotherapy treatments.

More information about Memorial Health Foundation’s next grant cycle can be found online at mhsystem.org/Foundation starting July 1st.
